The Office of the Superintendant of Financial Institutions (OSFI) is a government agency tasked with overseeing the Canadian financial system. OSFI has jurisdiction to:

  • Supervise institutions and pension plans to determine if they are financially sound and meet the minimum plan funding requirements.
  • Advise institutions and pension plans in the event of material deficiencies and to enforce corrective measures as needed.
  • Provide a regulatory framework that promotes the adoption of policies and procedures designed to control and manage risk.
  • Monitor and evaluate system-wide issues that man negatively impact financial institutions.
